Basic 5 Step Nutrition Program:

  1. Comprehensive intake history and evaluation:
    1. assessment examines medical, lifestyle, and nutritional components
  2. Assessment of current diet:
    1. Analysis of a 3-5 day diet journal
    2. Optional: computerized nutritional analysis of current diet
  3. Create a customized plan that optimizes wellness through nutrition
    May Include:

    1. Nutrition Education: nutrition fundamentals, food balancing, portion control
    2. Modified elimination diet to rule out food irritants
    3. Adaptations for food intolerances or allergies
    4. Menu and meal planning
    5. Recipe development
    6. Shopping accompaniment
    7. Hands on cooking instruction
    8. Options for those with weight management, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, etc.
    9. Plans based on fresh, seasonal, local, whole, organic, and unaltered foods
  4. On-going Support:
    1. Program goals are developed collaboratively with the client
    2. Progress is tracked throughout treatment
    3. Computerized nutritional analysis of new diet, if desired
  5. Follow-up communication with referring physician

Patient example:
Janie, age 62, complained of insomnia, sugar cravings, and severe eczema. She is overweight, rarely exercises, is not diabetic or hypertensive; no other systemic problems were identified by her physician.

  • In following the customized nutrition plan, Janie eliminated her insomnia within 1 week.
  • During the next 6 weeks, Janie willingly eliminated some problematic foods, as recommended. As a result, her eczema has almost completely disappeared and she no longer has sugar cravings.
